Privacy Policy for ChildBucks
Effective date: June 19, 2026 · Last updated: June 19, 2026
ChildBucks (“the app”, “we”, “us”) is a family allowance app that lets a parent manage chores and rewards and share them with their family. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app handles and how.
ChildBucks is a motivational tool for children and an overview and control tool for parents. It only keeps a record of completed chores and earned rewards. The app does not move, hold, or process any money and makes no real transactions or payments — any pocket money is paid by the parent to the child directly, outside the app. Because of this, the app contains no payment system and collects no banking, card, or other financial information.
We designed ChildBucks to keep your family’s data private. We do not operate our own servers and we never receive, store, or have access to your family’s data. All family content stays in your own Apple iCloud account.
1. Who is responsible
The app is developed and published by Dušan Jícha (“the developer”).
For any privacy question or request you can contact us at:
- Email: childbucks@jicha.net
2. What data the app handles and where it is stored
2.1 Family data stored in your iCloud (Apple CloudKit)
To make the app work, you and your family members create content such as:
- Family name
- Member display names and their role (parent or child)
- Child profile names and avatars
- Chores/tasks, their reward amounts and settings
- Reward claims and their status (pending, approved, rejected, with an optional rejection note)
- Approved earnings, amounts, and the related timestamps
- An identifier provided by Apple that is used to tell family members apart and to attribute actions within a shared family
This content is stored in Apple iCloud using Apple’s CloudKit service (in a private database and, when you share a family, a shared CloudKit zone). It is stored under your Apple ID and, for shared families, made available to the family members you invite. The developer has no access to this data and does not transmit it to any third party.
How iCloud handles, secures, and retains this data is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy and the iCloud Terms.
2.2 Age category (Apple Declared Age Range)
To choose between the parent and child experience, the app may ask Apple for a declared age range using Apple’s official Declared Age Range API. Apple only returns an age category (for example, “under 18” or “18 or older”) — not your date of birth. The app stores only the resulting category locally on the device and never receives an exact age or birthday.
2.3 Contacts
When a parent chooses to invite someone to the family, the app uses the system contact picker. The app only receives the email address of the single contact you explicitly select. The app does not request access to your address book and cannot read your contacts in bulk.
2.4 Settings stored on your device
Preferences such as your chosen app language, currency symbol, display name, and the age category result are stored locally on your device (in standard iOS app storage). They stay on the device and in your iCloud backup if you use one.
2.5 Push notifications
The app can send you local notifications (for example, when a chore is claimed, a reward is approved, or a member joins) and uses Apple’s CloudKit subscriptions and Apple Push Notification service (APNs) to learn when family data has changed. Notification delivery is handled by Apple. The developer does not run a notification server and does not collect your device token.
3. What we do NOT do
- We do not sell or rent your data.
- We do not use analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites.
- We do not include any third-party SDKs that collect personal data.
- We, the developer, do not receive or store your family’s data on any server we control.
- We do not process payments or handle money, and we collect no banking, card, or other financial information.
4. Children’s privacy
ChildBucks is intended to be set up and managed by a parent or guardian. Child profiles (such as a name and avatar) are created by the parent within their own family and stored in the family’s iCloud data as described above.
Because the developer has no servers and no access to this data, we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. A parent or guardian controls all child profiles and can edit or delete them at any time from within the app.
If you believe a child’s information has been handled in a way that concerns you, please contact us at childbucks@jicha.net.
5. Legal basis and your rights (EEA/UK – GDPR)
Where the GDPR applies, the processing that happens on your device and in your iCloud is carried out to perform the app’s core functionality at your request. Because the data lives in your own Apple iCloud account, you remain in control of it.
You can:
- Access and edit your family data directly in the app.
- Delete child profiles, families, or use “Delete All Data” in Settings to remove the private family data owned by your account and reset local app state on the device.
- Delete everything by removing the app and deleting the related data from your iCloud account (Settings → your name → iCloud).
For data held in iCloud, you may also exercise rights directly with Apple, as Apple is the provider of the iCloud storage.
6. Data retention and deletion
The app keeps your family data for as long as it exists in your iCloud account. You control retention: deleting items, deleting a family, using “Delete All Data”, or signing out of / removing the app and clearing iCloud data removes it. Shared families owned by another member remain under that owner’s control.
7. Security
Your family data is protected by Apple’s iCloud security, including encryption in transit and at rest as described in Apple’s documentation. On your device, data is protected by iOS app sandboxing and the device’s own security (passcode, Face ID/Touch ID). No method of electronic storage is 100% secure, but because we hold no copy of your data, there is no developer-side database to breach.
8. International transfers
Any storage or transfer of your iCloud data is performed by Apple through its infrastructure and is subject to Apple’s policies. The developer does not transfer your data internationally because the developer does not receive it.
9. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, provide notice in the app or on the page hosting this policy. Continued use of the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
10. Contact
